Dogs are pack animals and are descended from wolves. People began to tame dogs over 8,000 years ago and since have developed many different breeds. Though they vary greatly in size, shape, color and temperament, all dogs share similar characteristics. An excellent sense of smell and hearing that is about four times better than human hearing are a dog's best senses.
